How To Get More 5-Star Google Reviews – 2020 Guide

(newly updated for 2020)
You (hopefully) already provide 5-star service to your customers and clients.  Now how do you make it easier for your happy customers to leave you great reviews?  How can you invite them to give you feedback directly (offline) so that you can improve your service and coach your staff?
This guide will show you a simple, low tech way to ask for and get more 5-star reviews AND having negative reviews sent to your management team so they can address issues BEFORE customers put them online.
Best of all, this whole process is free and pretty straight forward to do yourself! Do leave me a comment if you find it useful or see a way to make it better.

Before You Start…

You’ll need:

Step 1: Find & Copy The Google Review Link

Visit your Google My Business Account (https://business.google.com/).
Find the “Share review form” button.
On a mobile…

On a desktop…
Here’s what that looks like. Click on the box to copy the link.

Paste the link in your email or somewhere for reference (eg. Word Document or text file).
I personally like to use this as a ‘hyperlink’ instead of posting it directly in an email.
So, your email text will look like this:
Leave us a review on Google
Instead of this:
Leave us a review on Google: https://g.page/628media/review?rc

Step 2: Write Your Email

You can use one of the sample templates below, but feel free to make it your own. You can get fancy, here if you want (with images), or just keep it simple!

Sample 1:

Hi {firstname},
Have you ever checked online reviews before dealing with a business, brand, or product?  A lot of people do.
If I’ve served you well today, a 5-star review really helps!  Would you mind taking 30 seconds? Just click the link(s) below and it will take you to the right place.
Leave a review on Google:
Leave a review on Facebook:

Thanks so much for helping local business!

Your Name, Business Name, Contact Info
PS. If my service was anything less than 5-star, please reply to this email and let me know how I can serve you better and enhance your experience.

Sample 2:

Hi {firstname},

If I’ve served you well today, taking 30 seconds to leave us a 5-star review really goes a long way.  I’ve made it easy.  Just click one of the buttons below.
Leave me a review on Google

Leave me a review on Facebook

Thanks so much for helping local business.

Sample 3:

Hi {firstname},
Have you ever checked online reviews before dealing with a business, brand, or product?  A lot of people do.
If we’ve served you well today, a 5-star review really helps!  Would you mind taking 30 seconds? Just click the link(s) below and it will take you to the right place.

You can access and download each of the above images for free here.

Add Hyperlink

For the 5 star review links/images in your email, paste your hyperlink (ie. right-click on the text or image, select ‘add hyperlink’ and then paste the url you got from step above, you can also just edit the link from the email text below)
For anything less than 5 star, we suggest having that feedback be sent in an email to you or your management team (eg. select the text or image, choose ‘add hyperlink’ and then choose ’email address’ and enter the email address of the person who should receive the complaint. Eg. feedback@yourcompany.com)

Step 3: Send The Email to Clients!

At this point, you can add an interesting offer, a coupon, request a like on Facebook, a follow on Instagram, or something else entirely. If you need help, we can craft something awesome for you.
I hope this guide helps you. I made it simple so that ANY business could implement in in the shortest possible time. Create this email as a template and send it out to your guests and visitors.
